The Game
The most-awaited breakthrough in video gaming has arrived. Virtual Reality is now no longer an idea reserved for science fiction stories. The world of gamers and non-gamers alike cheered the release of the upstart company Auratec-Game's brainchild. "Tenworld" boasts full immersion in a virtual reality game, utilizing state-of-the-art electron technology; all you have to do is put on the helmet and plug it in to the console, then sit back and fly into the world of the Game.
The Game began it's beta testing recently. Auratec selected several members at random from its magazine subscribers to become the first to play the game. The world affectionately calls these kids the "luckiest kids on earth."
When the summer came, the gamers were brought to Auratec HQ. They would stay in individual suites during their stay, and receive whatever they needed. Their only assigned task was to play the Game every day, while the analysts and game developers tracked their progress. Tenworld was in its final stages of production; all that was left was to find the last few glitches. By testing the game, the lucky gamers would no doubt come across any glitches to be fixed.
They found the last glitch. It was nothing anyone was prepared for.
The Briefing
Welcome, Gamers.
Thank you for participating in this, the final stages of production for Tenworld. We hope you enjoy the experience.
We would like to explain a few things before you hook up to the Game for your first time. These guidelines will help you understand what it is you need to do in order to maximize your enjoyment while in play.
The rest of the information you may need can be found as you progress through the Game. The analysts will help you to adjust your Helmet and Gameseat for maximum body comfort. Understand that removing the Helmet while not utilizing a Save Point can cause a loss of data. You will be in a form of stasis while playing. We recommend occasional breaks to avoid stiffness in your bodies.
Enjoy your experience, and welcome to the Game.
Begin the Glitch
The gamers, after their briefing and customization sessions, had had a chance to meet briefly with the others who would be testing the Game with them. After a short waiting period, they were allowed into the testing room, and strapped into the Gameseats. Finally, after months of eager waiting, they donned the Helmets.
A buzzing feeling rushed through them as the electrodes connected. Their minds seemed to float from their bodies, and into a tunnel of multicolored streaming light. The motion ended, and they all stood in a field of white nothingness. But, something was wrong.
They could see each other. According to the briefing, they would not be able. They looked around for a bit, confused, and then brushed it off. Perhaps they'd lose sight of each other when the actual world loaded.
Streams of colorful zeros and ones suddenly swirled in geometric patterns all around them. Tenworld was forming! But, a few perceptive gamers noticed right away that the others didn't fade away. It seemed that the separate files engine was not working properly.
The second problem became glaringly obvious when the colorful binary finished its rounds and the world formed around them. They all stood on a wide circle of smooth stone. The grass beyond this stone, however, could easily reach their chests, and the trees, waving so realistically in a virtual breeze, towered far beyond what they should have. It seemed that, somehow, every player's appearance in the game was shrunk down. And there was no Save Point in sight so they could exit. The Glitch had begun.

- Save Points: You will be able to exit the Game at any time if you feel the need to. Likewise, you can rejoin your file at any time, starting again from the last Save Point.
- Customization: You will be able to customize your persona according to the level of Tenworld. As you progress, more options may become available. Virtual fighting will be a large part of the Game. You will be able to customize an arsenal of weaponry.
- VANtage: VANtage, your Virtual Assistant Nonplayable, will join you shortly after you enter the game. He is to be your guide, and will be controlled by his own Artificial Intelligence server. We highly recommend that you make the best use of his advice to best play the Game. He knows what he's doing.
- Other Nonplayable Characters: Other than Vantage, there are countless characters within the game running on AI servers as well. They may help or hinder your gameplay.
- Virtual Fighting: Vantage will be able to give you a basic gameplay tutorial shortly after your Game has begun. He will include a lesson in how the battle system works. Know that encounters will not be random in the Game. You will always have forewarning and the option to avoid a battle.
- Separate Files: You will all be playing the same Game, and the same version of Tenworld. However, your files will be separate and you will not encounter your fellow gamers while in-world. Multiplayer is a function to be tested later during your stay.
The rest of the information you may need can be found as you progress through the Game. The analysts will help you to adjust your Helmet and Gameseat for maximum body comfort. Understand that removing the Helmet while not utilizing a Save Point can cause a loss of data. You will be in a form of stasis while playing.
