She couldn't help but wince as he talked. He had a fairly gentle voice, but it was still quite loud. Merri put her hands over her ears lightly. "We can talk, yes ... everything looks bigger, and it sounds bigger, too," she said pointedly. Even so, she continued. "Everything is pretty scary in its own way ... I'm used to being taller, y'know? I've gotten used to it, but when the fallout first happened ... " she fell silent and shuddered, remembering that fearful time.

Ken shifted his eyes at the mention of everything being louder, he knew this was sort of a response towards his voice, which while sounds perfectly gentle and quiet to him and others, probably sounds ear shattering loud to Merri, especially since that she was only a few inches away from his mouth. "Well..." He said in a more quieter tone, hoping not to bother her. "that does sound kind of rough, that kind of reminds me when my twin sister changed because of the fallout.. Ah, the horrible memories of waking up, and finding a 12 foot tall rattlesnake human hybrid who was my sister trying to wrap me up.. She became very barbaric you know, pretty scary.."

As his voice quieted, Merri relaxed to listen to what he had to say. She frowned and looked away at the mention of his sad story. "I'm sorry that happened," she replied hollowly. "I lost my family before the fallout," she added, not giving the whole truth. "I've met some wackos out there ... plenty of animal hybrids have tried to make a snack out of me." She scoffed musingly, shaking her head as if the very thought was ridiculous. "So .... this sister isn't likely to come back, is she?" she asked, admittedly worried. She'd met a few regular snakes and they had been enough trouble.

Ken gulped at the question about his sister, he kne she was still out there, out there waiting for the day to strike the ruined city and pretty much eat everyone there, sure, they had all scared her away the times she tried to invade. "I won't lie to you to calm you down, but she's a real threat, she comes once every few months, bigger and more nasty each and every time, last time, her snake tail had grown large and fat eniugh to kill pretty easily. But we scare her away with our primitive weapons, and we have surprisingly never had anyone killed by her."

Merrigan twisted her mouth thoughtfully as he explained the situation. "That's troublesome," she muttered. "All I do to get rid of snakes is throw rocks ... but usually I have to just run." She felt herself going quiet as she spoke. The thought of a giant, mutant snake honestly scared her quite a bit. But not as bad a some things. "I'm sure you guys have a good system," she added to reassure herself. "So .... I can't tell, how did the fallout change you? Are you a shapeshifter or something?"

Ken chuckled slightly at the question, it was pretty hard to believe, but the fallout hadn't changed him, as far as he knew. "It's pretty hard to believe, but I really didn't change from the fallout. I know, that's really weird because basically everyone either died or changed because of the fallout, but I didn't. Not in any noticeable way, maybe I grew a inch or something or lose a inch, I'm not sure what changed about me, but I guess nothing did..."

Merri raised her eyebrows in surprise. "Really? That's ... well, that's weird," she commented. "Lucky. I haven't met anyone else who changed like me." She shook her head. So everyone else in the town ... are they still normal too? Or are you the odd one out?"

"I'm the only one, which kind of makes things uncomfortable to me sometimes, being the only normal person in a entire city, with everyone else being mixes of animals or other strange mutations. Heck, it even makes me feel less normal." He laughed to himself slightly as he said this. "Though, you honestly do not look very mutated, besides for the fact your only a few inches tall now." He smiled at her. "Well, I think the city is pretty close now, we should be getting there in a few minutes.."

Merrigan smiled, noting that there was a nice compliment embedded in his statement. It was refreshing, really. Most people reacted with laughter or some form of cruel joke against her because of her mutation. She glanced ahead. "So ... what's this city like? It looks pretty wrecked, is it safe to live in?"

He sighed to himself, living in the city was while hard, was also probably the safest place to be at the moment. "Well, there's only a few of us, like about two dozen who live here, so it isn't crowded in the slightest. Most of the homes and buildings are invested with Mutated giant rats and ants, though we Do not stay in the buildings, we rather rest and sleep inside bunkers that were built before the fallout, intended to protect against the fallout actually.."

Merrigan went a little pale at the mention of giant ants. She hated normal bugs, let alone mutated ones. She'd definitely avoid the buildings. She shifted where she sat on his shoulder. "I guess the bunkers didn't really work." She mused for a moment. "There's not ... there's not anyone here who'd, I dunno, consider me a trespasser or something, is there?" The last thing she needed was to enter an enclosed space and find someone super territorial there. She'd done it before and almost ended up getting thrown out a window.

Ken shook his head. "I think some of us are like that, but you don't have to worry, just tell them I'd you do end up on their space, 'I know Ken.' or something like that, they'll leave you alone, as because I'm the only normal in the city, I've became more of a Leader to the city, you get that?" He smiled slightly, before looking at the city, which was a dark, almost gaustly looking place they were about to enter

Merrigan nodded, but remained silent. She figured she'd have to just stick close to Ken, rather than risk pissing someone off. He may have been their leader or whatever, but she knew that distrust was one of the first reactions among people anymore. She turned to examine the city as they entered. The broken windows and rundown walls made it look very sad and creepy. "S-so, is everyone hiding or something?"

Ken walked in the slow, quiet, yet menacing and scary streets. He knew that at any moment, something could come out at him, and just suddenly attack him and Merri. "Their hiding in the bunkers as usual, remember that the city is infeasted with mutant rodents and ants, so it's very dangerous to just stay in one area for an extended period of time."
He turned his head, and sighed. "Hey! Anyone outside right now?!!! It's Ken, I've returned with the fruit!"

Merrigan glanced all around, shuddering at the state of the city. Every once in a while, she thought she heard something scuttling around, or saw something shuffling through the shadows. It definitely gave the city that haunted feeling. She flinched out of her reverie when Ken yelled for others. "Will they come to help you carry them?" she asked in a whisper. She shifted to move closer to his neck, almost not realizing that she did so.

Ken suddenly remembered, Merri was very small and that yell he did probably almost busted her ears. "Oh, Uh.. Sorry..." He whispered to her. "And yes, that's what I hopefully plan for. Let's just hope that someone else is even out here in the first place.. "Helllo?" He yelled one last time, before sighing as he saw no one approach. "Hmmph, well, I guess I need to head towards my bunker with all of these oranges then with just you.." He sighed, beginning to walk again.

Merri looked around, her instincts screaming at her to be cautious. The complete lack of people was unnerving, not that she wasn't used to it. But she'd half expected someone to come and greet Ken, considering he was their leader figure. She glanced back at him at his last statement. "Sorry I can't help you carry anything ..." she murmured lamely. She kept looking around, and glanced up when she saw a crow take flight off of a building, sounding strangely like it was swearing when it cried out. Another quirky mutation, she guessed.

Ken Breathed in through his nose, and gazed at the surrourndings once again, hoping to check if someone was close by. But no, nothing. Only a crow that he sees every time he passes by this part of the city, exactly at this time. "Let us get going then..." Ken sighed slightly, walking in the empty roads, he could see a convertible car that crashed into a building nearby. "That's been here since the war ended, I guess someone lost control of their car."
He sighed, feeling a little bored. He never liked walking back to his bunker alone, because it was a long walk towards it. However, he wasn't alone. He was with a little over 5 inches girl. "Tell me Merri. What did you do before the war ended? Hmm? Don't be afraid to offend me or something, I never gave a single crap about the war, So nothing you did would offend me, unless if you were like my twin, a pro war freak."

Merrigan raised her eyebrows at the crashed car. It looked like it had been really nice at one point ... what a pity. She turned her head to look at Ken when he asked about her past. She frowned slightly and looked down at her worn-down shoes (made of a tough fabric tied with twine). "I, um ... " she didn't want to say. But, for some reason, she didn't want to lie to him either. "I was part of a pretty extreme rebel group ..." She swallowed, feeling a lump forming in her throat. "We ... we did some pretty horrible things."

"A Rebel Group huh?" Ken nodded slightly, he had to admit, that did sound kind of cool, being a part of a group against the war spud Ed like something out of a movie or something. "That's interesting, I'm guessing by your little aheltic body, you probably did something real important?" Ken asked. "My twin, the same one who's now a mutant snake, really really, hated your group if I remember. She would cuss at the television screen or radio if she heard something you guys did.."
