This story is very cute so far. Gear is pretty cool, though he seems to be a bit of a space cadet, if you know what I mean. >.< You are good at writing emotions, so I'm sure your skill will be very evident when it takes a sadder turn, as you say it will. -A-

"Brother! Brother! Stop! Don't go there!" Victor shouted running to the barn with a flail. But his brother didn't understand what he was saying. He just stood in the barn door, struggling with the horses. So Victor took a different approach.
"What do they say.... Gear! Stand down!" he commanded the invisible robot. The saying had been used on TV once and it made the machines freeze.
"Command confirmed," Gear droned. Mark let go of the horses and searched for the impossibly huge voice. Victor felt proud, his first command had been acknowledged. But then Gear shifted giving away his position.
"Gear," Victor groaned, but then he saw what had made the robot move. Karen had found him and must have touched the sensitive robot's leg. Her eyes were wide with wonder. Mark's eyes were wide with fear.
"What the heck?" Mark gasped. Karen moved closer to where Gear was and reached out her hand. Suddenly, she was airborne trapped in the robot's hand. And then, she was gone. Mark's stomach dropped as he heard a sickening swallowing sound.
"Karen!" Mark cried letting go of the frightened horses and picking up the closest thing he had for a weapon, a large iron shovel.
"Threat confirmed," Gear growled. The air around him distorted as the giant shimmered into view. He bare chest heaved with false breath and the black solar panels that ran along the robot's spine glittered in the dying light. Karen was nowhere to be seen on Gear's person.
"Gear!" Victor helpless screamed as the robot turned on his brother. Mark charged the robot, shovel first, and the iron head bit deep into Gear's thigh. Not being able to pull it free, Mark turned his terrified azure eyes onto Gear's hand, which was coming down fast. Gear tore Mark away from his leg and smashed him into the ground, slowly pressing the life from the human. Just as Mark was about to be crushed, Victor sprawled himself upon the back of Gear's cold hand.
"Stop! My brother is not a threat! You are!" Victor sobbed over Mark's desperate pleas for the boy to escape. Gear stopped bearing down on Mark. He lifted his hand with Victor balanced on its back to his eyes.
"Master? ....Victor?" Gear sighed. Mark raised himself to his knees and stared up at the robot, tears welling in his eyes. His ashy blond hair was covered in dirt and straw as he reached one shaky hand up to where the monster had Victor. Through his cracked glasses, everything seemed distorted.
"He called Victor...master?" Mark gasped not knowing what was going on. The robot's free hand came up to comfort the sobbing boy. Hesitating slightly, he dipped a finger down and touched Victor on the back. Victor froze at the giant's gentle touch. But the robot's hand swiftly retracted from his sensors picking up a strange sensation near where the shovel had bit through him. Mark was pulling it out. The word "threat" flashed an angry red in the giant's eyes, but his master's hot tears pushed him not to make a move against the man.
"What are you doing?" he asked the struggling human.
"Are you my little brother's friend?" Mark demanded him. All the giant did was stare before tilting his head to one side in confusion. He hastily looked up the word friend.
"Friendship is co-operative and supportive behavior between two or more people. In this sense, the term connotes a relationship which involves mutual knowledge, esteem, and affection and respect along with a degree of rendering service to friends in times of need or crisis. I...do not know if I am his friend. I am a servant," Gear stated looking pretty down crested for a machine.
"By the way you are holding him, I'd say you are," grunted the psychiatrist giving the embedded weapon another tug. Gear offered the small man his hand.
"Rope," was all the giant said. Mark got a rope from the barn and tied it tightly around Gears finger and the handle of the shovel.
"I will still require you assistance," Gear explained with a much kinder look to the human he had just tried to kill. The robot was attempting to bridge the gap between Victor's family and himself. Together, human and giant, they dragged the shovel free. The sensitive nerve wires had been severed and glints of the metal bone could be seen. Having thin skin was a main weakness in K001. Mark stared at the bloodless shovel.
"What are you?" he stammered.
"A weapon," Gear sighed cutting the rope with a small blade that slipped out from under his black fingernail. He ruffled the man's hair with his little finger gently as if to comfort the shaken man, but was really taking a DNA sample for future reference.
"Gear?" Victor sniffled bringing the robot to attention, "Where is my sister?" Gear's eyes clicked and whirred rapidly as he checked on the girl.
"Her readings are normal. She is in my holding chamber. But my ladder had not been fully placed in before I was activated, so getting her out will be a problem. Forgive my hasty action, Victor," Gear droned, an almost worried gleam hiding in the back of his mechanical eyes.
"Your holding chamber is your stomach, isn't it?" Mark called out dryly. Gear checked his body before nodding.
"You ate her?" Victor cried. Gear's face went stone cold.
"I told you, I do not eat. She was about to give away my position, so I put her in my holding chamber. It was made for my master during a time of war. Transport. Protection. It should not have hurt her. Trust me," the robot explained with a wave toward his belly with his free hand.
"I don't," pouted the human. He had restarting his sobbing. Gear raised his hand to comfort him again, but stopped. He stared at the solar panels in disgust. He was a failure.
Making the small blade extend, he jabbed it into his mouth. After fiddling around a bit, he found the release button for the ladder. He felt the ladder slam into the pit of his stomach. Leaning forward, he felt the cold steel rest against the wall of his throat and his stomach. He also felt the tickle of something small beginning to climb out.
"What are you doing?" Mark asked the robot. Victor had his back turned to Gear, refusing to look at the scornful machine. Gear put the hand that Victor was on to his cold, pale lips. He opened his mouth to let the boy's sister free. Karen stumbled out of the giant's dry mouth with a wave to him. He cautiously waved back, expression still blank. Karen turned and wrapped her arms around her brother. Victor turned around, tears still in his eyes and gave a surprised cry. He wrapped his arms around his sister in a tight hug.
"Sister returned softly," Gear sighed, a frown deepening on his face. Karen was released from her brother's grip and walked to the giant's face. She placed both hands on the tip of the giant's nose and smiled. Gear blinked.
"I'm sorry Gear! I didn't want to hurt your feelings! You scared me!" Victor cried. Gear moved his free hand and placed a finger on top of Victor's head. Victor pulled the digit down and held it close. His tears warmed the robot's cold flesh. Gear looked out to the almost dead light.
"I need to let you down," he suddenly stating biting his lip. He quickly loward both hands together but never made it. Right above his knees his hands suddenly froze. His eyes blanked and slowly closed and his expression softened. He had shut down due to lack of power. The sunset died. Helping his siblings off the robot, Mark sighed and hugged them close. Tears filled his eyes and his cracked glasses slipped down his nose. He was overjoyed that the robot didn't seriously hurt any of them, though he himself was covered in dirt and bruises.
"What do we do with him now?" Mark muttered to himself looking up at the frozen giant.

OH SNAP. Poor mark. D: Was almost dirt pizza. 'Holding Chamber' indeed. You'd think falling in there would hurt a person. D:

No sorry. xD The signal of the TV would interact badly with some of Gear's "higher functions". Like his train of thought.

Karen patted the robot's leg with a large smile. Victor followed suit, though no smile spread across his face. Mark sighed and looked up at the looming metal monster. Without any power, the robot looked almost peaceful, untroubled by worry or strife.
"What should we do with it?" Mark asked sitting on the earth and fixing where his broken glasses lay on his nose.
"Gear is a boy," Victor replied with a glare to his older brother. Karen nodded. Mark sighed again and began to rub his tempals in a somewhat soothing fashion.
"You both have grown attached to him, haven't you?" he quietly muttered. Karen nodded, her smile returning. Victor just blankly stared up and the shut down machine.
"He's dangerous," the boy stated, "And he sees me as his master." Karen held her younger brother close as he began to cry. Mark stood and brushed the dirt from his pants.
"Karen, can you take him inside and get ready for dinner?" Mark asked the girl. Karen turned towards the small, dimly lit house and walked slowly with her brother still sobbing at her side. Mark's gaze turned back to the giant and he gasped. The blank look on the giant's face suddenly looked immensly sad, his lips dipping into a tight frown.
"You really do care for him," Mark called up to the sleeping titan, "But you need to prove it to Victor. To all of us." With that said, he turned back to his house to join his family for a dinner of cold turkey sandwiches and a restless night.

As the first rays of morning streached out over the horizon, Karen crawled out of her warm sheets. She smoothed down her pale blue satin night clothes and opened her window. She slipped out onto the soft green grass, her toes curling from the cold. She closed her window quietly and rushed to where Gear was sleeping.
She began to climb on one of the silver wires protruding from the giant's back as the sun began to rise faster. Pink laced the morning sky. Gear blinked his eyes with a whirr. Karen froze.
"Systems online. Begin powering sequence," boomed the giant. He yawned, though no air was sucked through his lips. Karen wanted to call out to him, but could not. His eyes searched his body before attempting to stand. Karen was tossed this way and that on the swinging wire before the huge creature stopped moving.
"Pressure sensed. Who is there?" Gear asked, the lighted model of his body showing pressure on one of the disconnected wires. He groped around for it before pulling it to his shoulder. He ran his hand down it until his senors found Karen. He wrapped her in his hand, cupping the human gently and brought her to his face.
"Miss Karen," the giant sighed in surprise. Karen waved, though there was no color in her rosey face. Gear stared at her before attempting a smile. She almost cringed, how feirce the smile was, and began to laugh. She reached up for the giant's face, which he brought her to. She pushed against his cheek making it soft. Doing the same to the other side of his great mouth, the robot relized his mistake. He softened his expression, the ridged smile becoming warm and friendly. Karen nodded and clapped her hands in approvement. He took his hand away from his face, imprinting her DNA and the data for a smile into his memory.
"Thank you," he sighed, keeping the smile. suddenly, his face almost seemed to mimic Mark's, his painted brows furrowing in concern.
"You cannot speak can you?" he bluntly stated. She nodded and touched her throat.
"I understand. Something has hurt you. Just know that every wound can be healed in time," Gear said bring her back up to his face. She hugged his cheek as he nuzzled her. The sun was up, chasing away the cold frosty dew. A rooster crowed from inside the barn. Gear rose from his knees, standing and placing Karen gently on his bare sholder. He could clearly see two horses mingling with a small heard of black and white cows near the far fence. He smiled again, enjoying the new facial feature.
"Prove myself..." he thundered under his breath taking a step towards the herd. Karen held on tightly to his wire-hair as the giant stalked forward.
