(--A little RP that Birdie and myself have been playing for gosh....a number of weeks now...
But, we thought that some of you might enjoy it...^^
Mae- Birdie
Roman- Yours truly --))
A breeze blew through the crowded streets of the buzzing city. It was a welcome to the crowd as they went about their business; many selling goods, many more buying them. but many of the lively citizens were young students enjoying a day off...and avoiding the library of the local university as much as possible. Which was a positive to one person who wanted the library to herself.

Roman stopped at the bottom of the stairs and rolled his eyes upwards to stare at the towering marble columns that framed the entryway to heaven…aka…The Library…The University Library at that. Largest collection of books in the entirety of Lyged.
He sucked in a deep breath and reached up to brush his lengthening black bangs out of his face before beginning his ascent towards the heavy oak doors…
He loved books. Gods he loved them. But he felt as though they were a dying kind. In a world of magic and increasing technology, the use for leather bound books was becoming less and less. Why go to the library when you could look up a topic on a hundred different websites instantly? It was easier.
But Roman thought it was kinda dumb. Not to mention lazy. But then again, he’d always prided himself in his love of books…despite the fact that everyone else dubbed him a nerd for it.
There was a certain book he was looking for, for a mythology report he was working on…but he couldn’t seem to find it anywhere online….thanks to technology he was able to locate a copy right here in the University Library…
Now, just to find it…

Large wings unconsciously twitching, Mae watched the milling crowds beneath her. making sure that the traffic into and out of the library was still at a minimal, the fae wondered again at the brilliance of her plan. 'it was such an easy plan to think of....the grove is dying and no one knows why. so why not look to your local library for answers' she thought ironically. the fae city Mae lived in was elegantly cut into and around the trees in an appropriately ancient grove. but in the recent years, the trees had started to leak a putrid sap that was proving to be harmful to the fae living there. steps had been taken to study and hopefully stop the viruses, but too many were falling sick. and the elders were the hardest hit. their magic had slowly faded until they fell into a sleep tht they never came out of. now the rest of the population was quickly following suit. 'there has to be something here. this is the largest library in the country. I just cant be seen by anyone.'
the fae had always been secretive, never trusting any of the larger races. history showed the fae as a race that were child-like...and always mistreated by all others. history was wrong about their disposition, but not as to how they were treated. the fae had retaliated and none forgot that. Then the larger races had left the fae alone in superstitious fear. But Mae’s people had left all others alone first out of self defense, but then self defense slowly turned mostly into tradition. all other races now mingled and peacefully interacted, but never with the fae or they fae willingly with them. and it was up to Mae to continue that tradition and save her people. even if she sought help from them there was every chance the fae would be taken advantage of again.

The young elf entered the large tome-filled room with a shiver of delight…it smelled so…ancient.
He wrinkled his sensitive elven nose at the light musty odor of old books and quickly walked towards the elderly human female seated behind the marble counter and asked her for directions to the historical section…the woman kindly led him to a back room and offered him a seat at one of the small, cramped, round tables while she fetched the book he was seeking...
Roman sighed and gazed around the empty room at the shelves filled with literally thousands upon thousands of the world's history volumes...half of them were scrolls. And his fingers twitched and itched to touch every single one…
He just might have got up and began browsing if the bookkeeper hadn’t have returned at that very moment, carefully placing a truly ancient looking book before him…
The young elf thanked her before opening the book to begin…
He kept telling himself to focus and read only what was needed for the report…but he couldn’t help but want to stop and read every page he turned to. Frustrated with the poor lighting, he quickly scrawled out a light rune in the thin layer of dust coating the table, sending a small orb of blueish light flickering into existence just above his head. Roman desired to learn magic….but lacked the money. And so the only spells he knew were the very basic conjurings of level 1.

Now more determined than ever, Mae checked to see if the afternoon's shadows had deepened. The library was literally across the street from her perch on a building top. she had hid there late last night and after casting shielding spells, had spent an almost sleepless night waiting for the morning. had she attempted to enter the library at night, security spells would have automatically been triggered and left her at the mercy of whoever found her. now those spells had been lifted and all she needed was for the last of the morning's glare to set to an afternoon shadow on the library. 'I have to reach the top window without detection. but my invisibility spell will still cast a shadow of it’s own.'
The small fae girl retied her dark midnight hair into a half up tail, the natural dark blue sheen moving when the light hit it. Mae considered that her hair color was possibly her only stunning feature. The color ran in her family, while many other fae had much lighter tones. her wings on the other hand, the one feature that really mattered in faerie society, was the one that had caused her the most shame growing up. Mae's wings resembled that of an owl moth and most fae in the city had brilliantly colored wings that were usually closer to a butterfly's. Mae had quickly adapted to the taunting by discovering very few friends, but mostly by being by herself and reading. History then had come naturally to her, which is how she had come up with her plan. her school history wasnt that extensive, going back only a few hundred years. but she had concluded that the illnesses in the trees and her people had to have happened before, if not to her city than to perhaps another. fae lore usually wasn't included in the texts of other races, but she had to try.
after retying her hair, Mae again glanced at the light. 'itll have to do. I cant wait.' and with a mad dash, the girl took to the air and quickly flew into the window she had aimed for.
After darting through the unguarded window, Mae quickly flew and landed on decorative scroll work lining the wall and close to the ceiling. 'Gods..cant believe that Ive actually made it!' She silently rejoiced and started to look around the room. she had chosen this room because during the night, the window was the most guarded from the outside. she had concluded that the oldest texts were in here, and most likely one that had something to help her. 'now just to figure out the system they've been sorted into'
She started to carefully make her way around the room, using the scroll work as a walkway. as she made it to the other wall, her perspective shifted from staring at huge shelves full of old tomes and scrolls to the center of the room. she almost screamed in frustration when she saw that an elf around her age also shared the room with her. 'No! how am I supposed to find what I need when I have to remain hidden?!' flying to a shelf that was just across from the elf, Mae landed on a stack of scrolls. 'he has to leave. I need to find something and be gone before the security spells activate.' unconsciously shifting and fluttering her wings, she knocked into the scrolls precariously stacked behind her. wide eyed she could only watch as several scrolls that were longer and much heaver than her, knocked her off. Mae screamed before landing on the floor hard...
But, we thought that some of you might enjoy it...^^
