I don't think I know who you are, but it doesn't matter. Please understand that my story takes place 800 years into the future after the 2% of the human race survived both World War III and the nuclear virus with the cure. My name is Artemis Storm and my story begins in the year 2808 after the New Year's Eve party in downtown Reikos. As they celebrated the ringing of the new year, I was at home with my six-year-old son, Davin. His father, Austin, left us when he was born and we haven't heard from him since. It didn't bother us that much as he wasn't a good father to him anyway. I did what any single mother would do and raise my son the best way as I can. I have a high paying job which is more than enough for me and my son to live off of. Anyway, my case started a couple of days later as the reports of deadly attacks of citizens being killed or injured from three mutants.
"Artemis." Mikos said. "You got the case of the mutant attacks on civilians."
"Ok." I said.
If you must know the mutants are human like species that are very deformed around their bodies and their mouths have razor sharp teeth. They've been known to live in the wilderness away from here. The attacks began on the day of the snow festival and needless to say I can act very calm and hard about things. The reality is that I'm one of the survivors of the nuclear disease and the horrible World War III. I've had a big fear that one day the mutants will jump over the wall that was built to protect Rieonica and will slaughter us.
"I'll get on it right away." I said, heading out of the station.
I loaded up my guns and got on my hoverboard to go to the scene of the crime. With this going on, there's no doubt in my mind that this will be a long case. My cousin, Ginger's watches Davin during the nights that I'm doing the case. As soon as I arrived to the scene of the crime, the officers sped me up on what they found with the dead victims. Apparently the three dead victims were punks who thought they could defeat the mutants if they used themselves as bate. It didn't work as their friends warned them against doing that.
"Just three kids that should've kept their noses in their books and their homework." I said. "Over doing something this stupid."
"So true." the officer said.
"Did you guys get any comment from the two surviving victims?" I asked them.
"One statement from the female." the other officer said. "The male lost his voice to speak. Therefore we can't get any comment on him."
I had the perfect solution to it as I went inside to where the male was and handed him a sheet of paper and a pen for him to write on. This helped out a lot as the male wrote down his statement on what happened as his friends dared to fight the mutants using themselves as bait. It was the dumbest move they'd made that would hurt their parents in the long haul. As soon as this was over, I got out of the cop car and walked over to the two officers waiting for me.
"Did you get his statement?" the officer said.
"I did." I said. "Since you mentioned that he couldn't talk after the attacks. I had him write on paper telling us what happened. The officer that were on duty were able to kill the mutants, saving both of them."
As this continued on, I noticed one of the dead victims looking towards the sky as it was still sunlight. The female victim got out of the other car and prayed for her friends finding peace.
"Are you Miranda Millerd?" I asked.
"I am." Miranda said.
"Have you done anything this crazy before?" I asked.
"No." she said. "I'm a straight A student. I wouldn't do anything this stupid."
"That's good." I said.
"Ron, Darin and Nick thought it'll be a good idea to bluff off the mutants who snuck in here." Miranda said. "Apparently they didn't think with their brains about how dangerous the mutants are. I was aware of it and so was Evan. They only attacked us, but then they made sure that he never talked again which is why the officers didn't get a comment on him."
I told her that I got the statement from her friend, Evan in which that both of them must stay away from challenging anymore mutants. She agreed to the terms that they stay far away from the crime scene until the fight against the mutants ended. This is going to be a very long case as the mutants have shown how aggressive they are in killing.
"It's funny how genocide and war brought the near end of the human race." The officer said.
"Yes." I said. "But you must also remember that we all came together and never gave up on living and rebuilding our lives again."
He nodded his head as we continued to pick up more evidence as it happened one of the dead victims opened his eyes and tried to attack us.
"Holy....." was all the officer said.
I pulled out my gun and shot the attacking mutant directly into the head, instantly killing him. I did the same for the remaining two victims as it was customary to kill the the minute they become mutants. It's a tough job to do, protecting what left of our race, but over time we got used to it.
"Acurate shot." the officer said. "The name's Briant Williams. I'm from the 2nd division"
"Artemis Storm." I said. "From the 12th division."
"I see." he said. "One of the top divisions of the league."
It was true that the 12th and the 2nd divisions were two of the members of the law enforcement of Rieonica. As soon as I gathered the evidence and the testimony of the two surviving victims, I headed back to the 12th division precinct on my hoverboard. I had to type in my report on what happened with the victims and hope that both Miranda Millerd and Evan Wheats stayed out of the crossfire for good. This is because I don't want any more casulaties that is one of the thing of this job I still haven't gotten used to as of now. Although I usually hide it though my tough exterior.
"Did you get the statements from the two victims?" my chief asked me.
"I just did and I'm typing it right now." I said. "When I'm done, I'll give it to you."
"Ok." he said. "Carry on"
That the Chief of the 12th precinct, Lloyd Royal. He has dedicated his life to making sure that Rieonican civilians are safe on the streets which is why no one should be out at night without supervision. I continued to type in my report as my friend, Mikos came in.
"Artemis." Mikos said. "Did you get the report of the two victims?"
"I got their testimony." I said. "But one of their dead friends came back to life as a mutant and tried to kill me and Williams. I ended up shooting him in the head, rendering him dead."
"Yikes." he said. "I haven't encounted anything like this before."
"You will eventually." I said. "You thought joining this precinct is glamorous and flowery. It isn't, it's survival to the fittest. You have to understand that not too manyy people didn't want to join, but did so to try and protect our fellow Rieonicans as well as our own families."
And it's true that he'll find out how much it's survival to the fittest when I take him to one of the places where mutant attacks are occuring. For right now, I just want to get my report done on the testimony and soon. Once I finally finished up on the report, turned it in to my boss. Then I headed out of the precinct for the night because I had to head home to be with my son while Gwen has to work the late shift at her job.
"I hope nothing bad happens." I said. "I don't want anything happening that'll make me late home to my son."
I hopped on my hoverboard and headed home because I hate having to walk home and it was more convienient for me to use. The traffic isn't bad at all as I made my way home for the night. Once I did so, my cousin came outside the house to talk to me.
"Did you hear what happened?" Ginger said.
"I was there." I said. "Three dumb teens thought it'll be a smart idea to bluff off the mutants by using themselves as bait. But two of their friends were smart to say no."
"Yeesh." Ginger said. "That bad."
"That's right." I said. "Just go to work for the night."
She headed off to work as I stayed home for the night with my son. I needed the night off from all the times I've worked late at night and my cousin stayed at my house with Davin.
"I hope nothing bad will happen." I said.
"Mom." Davin said. "Are you ok?"
"I'll be fine." I said. "I just need time to think. Just do your homework."
I wasn't fine at all. I felt like exploding at times because of what late shifts can do to me. I didn't want to join the fight against the mutants, but I had no other choice. I had to support my son and pay bills as a single mother since my ex-boyfriend who is his father left. At times, I just want to have a man like Ginger has who is very supporting and loving. I hate being a mother and a father to Davin, but I don't have much choice as Austin made his choice clear that he doesn't want anything to do with us anymore. I managed to distract myself by cooking dinner for both of us for the night.
"How was school?" I asked.
"It was ok." Davin said. "Mom, do you miss dad?"
"Yes and no." I said. "No, because he made his choice a long time ago and had no qualms about it. Yes, because I missed all the times he's supported us thoughout the hard times."

Meanwhile in space, the giant male is driving a spacecraft that is from an alternate earth where there's overpopulation. His face can't be seen but he has long black hair, tied in the ponytail and is wearing a black outfit. He looked concerned for his life as he dodged his way throught the asteroid belt to find a new homestead from his planet.
"I need to find a new home and fast." the giant said. "I'll stop by on the new planet."
He decided to land on the new planet which he'll later find out to be the planet Earth. Hopefully he can find some inhabitants friendly to let him stay on the planet.
*************************************
I headed off to bed for the night after I cleaned up the dishes. I tucked him to bed and let him sleep. Then I headed into my bedroom to change clothes. The minute I did so, I climbed into bed and went to sleep.
"This is taking a toll on me." I said. "As hard as I try not to be interested in men, I wish I could be with a man who can love and support me and Davin without problems or rejection."
As much as I try hard not to let Davin know that I wanted to start dating. It was so hard for me because no man wants a woman who is both a mother and a father that has a very tough exterior. They want a woman who has a sweet and soft exterior as well as inside. By the next morning, I woke Davin up and got him to take a quick shower.
"Davin wake up." I said. "it's time to go to school. And don't do anything funny."
Then got him dressed as I made his favorite sandwiches and took him to school on my hoverboard. I don't trust the flying school bus because the driver on there always screwed up the addresses to the school and to our house. After that I went to the 12th Precinct where I worked with my friend, Mikos. From the look on his face, it looked like he wasn't happy at all.
"Morning Mikos." I said.
"Morning." he said. "Don't ask what happened."
I don't need to ask at all. If anything these days, it had to be mutant attacks. That's the hard part of doing the job, you aren't only thinking about your own life but others as well.
"Mutants, last night." I said.
"Why, yes." Mikos said. "Two mutants jumped over the wall to attack my wife, Adriane and daughter, Lida. I shot at the mutant trying to kill my daughter, thus saving her life. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to save my wife, and the male mutant killed her. I shot him in the head and then shot my wife in her head."
"You had to do the right thing." I said. "Your wife was counting on you to do the right thing. You did so in killing her. If you hadn't killed her, she would've been a mutant right now."
Mikos nodded his head as we continued working on the trial with the 2nd precinct. I was glad that he realized that this is survival to the fittest and not something glamorous. This made him think that he didn't want to be here a minute longer, but he had to stick through it for his daughter's sake.
"I hate being single." I said.
"I know." Mikos said. "It takes a toll on you being both a mother and a father. Now I'm going through it too with Lida."
"I know." I said. "But sometimes we got to buckle down and be responsible adults. Though I've yearned to be with a man again, I don't know if I should trust him around my son or not."
***************************************
The giant continued to maneuver his spaceship though the asteroid belt as he looked very pensive despite not being able to see his face. He needed to get away from his planet for a long time because of the war.
"I hope the planet Earth would provide me the place I wanted." he said. "And if there's life out there much tinier than me, I'd my best to protect them. The first step is to get them to trust in me knowing I won't hurt them."
He made his way past the asteroid belt and headed towards Mars. He made note how much the red planet is tinier than of Earth. As his ship past Mars and towards his final destination, he's heard stories about a tragic war that happened on Earth 800 years ago and his people thought the human race there died.
"I want to see for myself." the giant said.
**************************************
As we continued talking, we saw our fellow officers look up at the screen as they saw what was going on. For now, most of the mutants are in hiberation unless someone is dumb enough to provoke them again. Which is what usually happens like a couple of days ago. Sometimes the mutants would get brave enough to try and jump over the wall. Rare times, we'd see some smart enough to leave us alone as we have never been outside our protective wall to provoke them.
"It's gonna get worse before it gets better." Mikos said.
"I know." I said.
It was true as we were still in the midst of winter and we have yet to reach our Strawberry Harvest season, which starts in the spring. This means extra security needs to take place to avoid another attack again. There's no way we can do a strawberry festival outside this wall as the attacks have increased over the years, Rieonica was founded.
"We need to find ways to heighten our security and fast." one of the officer said.
"That's true." I said. "It's better if we do what we can and must before the next Strawberry Harvest Festival."
"You sense something wrong?" Narika said.
"I do." I said. "Every year it's always the same thing with the Strawberry Harvest Festival. We need to find ways to heighten and strengthen our security and fast before the next attack happens."
"I know that feeling." Mikos said. "It's always the same thing. The mutants are in a feeding frenzy every year and most precincts don't take this very seriously. Even worse is the fact some of them are very corrupt and dealing with punks who they want to provoke the mutants. "
"We'll have to see and soon." Briant said.
We got back to work after the current event news ended. Even though I kept focused on my work, I feel a bit distracted as I keep remembering my fears since I was a girl. I fear that one day the mutants will successful in jumping over the wall and kill us. It was that fear that had me join the force in the first place. I wanted to make a difference inwhat I'm going to do.
"I'm already afraid of what could happen." Narika said.
"I know." I said. "But we need to keep focus in our case and mission."
We nodded our heads and headed out on our lunch break. We needed to take some time away from here to eat. That way we don't get stressed about what to do.
**********************************
"Almost there." The giant said.
He's been in space for a long time and was getting worried about not finding a suitable place to live. It'll be over soon. he thought. I hope the tiny humans are friendly. He looked over as he saw the bright blue planet called Earth, which reminded him of Druinda. Due to wars going on there, he felt like he made the right decision to leave.
"I just can't live there anymore." the giant said. "No matter how much I'd miss my home, the wars are terrible enough to make me think otherwise. I don't want to hurt any structure or anyone smaller than me."
**********************************
We looked over as we continued to eat our lunch. We made the effort to be discreet about the heighten security and fast until the day of the festival which is in spring. We know it'll be tough considering the many times we've been attacked before over the years. At times, I do wish a powerful being could do something to help us out. Unfortunately, we can only rely on each other.
"We have to find some way to keep this from happening." Narika said.
"How do you suppose we do that?" Mikos said. "This has gone on for over 800 years."
"We have to find a away." I said. "We can't just hope for something to help us heighten our security. It has to come from us and the other precincts to prevent another mutant attack on our festival."
"We can only hope that they take this seriously." Briant said.
We finished up eating and headed by to work. This was going to a long day as we had to continue our ongoing case with the three victims who were attacked by the mutants.
"I say those three guys were very dumb to do that." Briant said.
"They're just kids." Mikos said. "They tend to be dumb to begin with."
"Well they.............." Briant said.
Frankly I don't know how much more we could take with the fight between Mikos and Briant. I stood up very angry at them and I had to say something right now before I regret it.
"Stop IT." I shouted. "I'm sick of the arguing and therefore stop it."
"We better...." Narika said.
"No." I said.
Mikos and Briant stopped fighting as Narika and I watched them leave. She turned to me and tried to fight with me, but I shoved her away and went back to work. From this moment on, I went back to work on my files. Later on that night, my cousin has babysitting night again and she is able to watch Davin for the night.
"Artemis." Pima said
"Yes. "I said.
"We need to to go to the two survivors for the night." he said.
"I'll do it if you come with me." I said.
"Im off for the night." he said.
I stayed behind for the night shift as I went out to see both Miranda and Evan for the night.
*******************************
Upon arriving to Earth, the giant is relieved to see it that he keeps the ship coming forward towards the blue planet.
"This is a nice spot for me to land this ship." he said.
When his ship entered the athnosphere, he kept going despite feeling much turbulence. He was actually happy to be on Earth as he landed his spaceship not to far from the wooded areas. He stood up from the pilot's seat and walked over to the door.
"I hope to start a new." he said.
"Artemis." Mikos said. "You got the case of the mutant attacks on civilians."
