Flashback Christmas 2005
A woman in her at the age of 23, was opeining her Christmas gifts. She had just realized it was the same gifts that she was given by her husband. The card was given to her since they were in college. Needless to say she was infuriated and confronted him about it again. She also feigns being touched about another card she already had.
"Marco." the woman said, feigning being touched. "That's so sweet."
"I know." Marco said. "I mean every word of it."
"And you meant that three years ago." the woman said.
"What?" Marco said. "How did you know, Elaine?"
Elaine glared at him in anger at him. It was good that their girls were sleep in ther rooms and that she could take her frustrations on him. She was upset at the fact that he was being cheap again on her, especially on Christmas.
"Marco, I always save every Christmas card you give me." Elaine said.
"I know that." Marco said.
"And I always mark down the year you gave it to me." Elaine said.
She shows him the year that he gave her the card. Needless to say he was a bit shocked and unaware that she had put down the year he gave it to her. Marco had realized that she had nown that he was being cheap again to her on Christmas. He hadn't done that to her during Thanksgiving and Valentine's Day. He wanted to save his Chriatmas bonus for himself.
"I didn't know that." Marco said.
"Marco." Elaine said. "You snuck into my Christmas box and gave me a card I already had didn't you."
"Might have." Marco said. "Elaine, let's look on the bright side and put a positive spin on it. Let's call it recycling."
"No Marco." Elaine said. "Let's call it for what it really is, cheap and lazy."
"Oooh." Marco said."Now Elaine that's a bit harsh."
"Harsh?!" Elaine said. "Marco, you gave me a half eaten box of chocolate dipped Christmas cookies. Some sorry, cheap imitation Louis Vitton bag. And to top it all off, you gave me an old card I already had."
She hands Marco his Christmas gift and he was surprised that she put a lot of effort on him with making Joanna and Roslyn's baby bracelets into gold plated keychains. Immediately, he felt guilty for hurting her for his selfishness in thinking of himself and decides to make it up to her. His nephew, Ryan loans him the construction paper to make Elaine a new Christmas card and finishes it easily.
"I know she'll love this." Marco said
Then he grabs all of the cheap bags he gave her, tore it open at the seams using a scissor and makes a bag himself out of them. He handstiches the pouches for the inside of the bag so they can hold her cell phone and iPod. Once the inside of the bag is complete, he flips it over and finsihed the outside of it. Once it was done, Elaine was impressed that he baked her fresh cookies for her to eat with their girls, a new card which he marked the year on the back and a new hand bag he made himself.
"That was so sweet of you, Marco." Elaine said. "I forgive you."
"And I love you. "Marco said.
That was the last time Elaine and her daughters had spent Christmas with him. Because after it was over, Marco was tragically killed in an automotive accident by a drunk driver. He had to be cremated and buried in his family's plot. After the funeral, she faces her family and tells them about what she has decided to do.
"Mother, father." Elaine said. "I won't remarry again."
"What?!" Mr. Benson said. "Are you out of your mind?"
"No." Elaine said. "I can't live with remarrying again and I want to get the chance to live my life with my girls on my own."
Five years later, Elaine has gone back to her maiden name, Benson, and moved her girls to a new home in New York. Joanna was now 7 and in the second grade while Roslyn was 4 and had just started preschool. She had become a famous purse designer and many people flocked to her store to buy her stuff. However, she was 28 and hasn't remarried since Marco's death. Many guys tried in vain to get her to go out with them again. She refused their advances and continued being the way she was.
"Elaine." Her co-worker said. "You can't be like this all the time."
"I know." Elaine said. "But it's hard to fall in love again. I'll put myself on the market soon."
One time, after school, Roslyn and Joanna had come home from school to notice someone moving into the giant house next door. They ran into the house window to see who was moving in there right away.
"I wonder whose moving in to that house?" Roslyn said.
"We'll find out soon." Joanna said.
They found out soon enough. It was a giant man who had just moved in. Joanna didn't want him to be aware of their presence and closed the curtains to he can't see them. However, he saw them right away and walked towards the house they live in. Roslyn headed into her room to see the giant much better. He was good looking, with golden blonde hair and grey eyes. During that time, she left her stuffed doll outside and headed out of her room to retrieve it.
"Rossie." Joanna said, running into her room. "Get back here."
Roslyn was too far outside as she grabbed her doll, that she didn't heed her sister's warning to stay indoors because of the giant and the snow. She did bundled up to get her stuff doll to bring it back inside. She felt the ground tremble as she was walking back to her house.
"I have to hurry back home." Roslyn said.
As she was doing so, she saw the giant man kneel down to her level and scooped her into his hand, so she won't have a hard time trying to trek back to her house. He gently stepped over the fence and at down on the snow covered ground. Roslyn looked up at the giant's handsome face as she sat down in the palm of his hand.
"What's wrong sweet one?" the giant said. "I won't hurt you"
"I know." Roslyn said. "My older sister might be more afraid of you than I am."
"I see." The giant said, his grey eyes facing down at her. "My name is Jason Black. What is your's sweet one."
"Roslyn." Roslyn said, blusing at what he called her.
Joanna headed outside to see the giant, Jason holding her sister in the palm of his hand and thinks she'll be eaten alive. She was afraid for her life that she tried to hide from him by going back into the house. However, he saw her and gently picked her up with two finger. Then he gently put her in the same hand as Roslyn and looked at her curiously.
"Are you gonna eat us alive?" Joanna asked.
"No." Jason said. "I don't eat people. I think it's too barbaric for me. I won't hurt anyone at all."
"Thank you." Joanna said.
Jason was relieved to see her calming down because he wants her to know that he's not a monster, but rather a giant human being. Her younger sister was more trusting of him and saw him more as a father figure, which reinforced his desire to have children.
"Anytime." Jason said. "I'll protect you girls."
"Ok." Joanna said "My name's Joanna, I'm Roslyn's older sister."
"Nice to meet you." Jason said. "My name is Jason. I'm your next door neighbor"
Joanna and Roslyn looked at each other as they knew that their Christmas wish to have a new father can be fullfilled if their mother meets him. Elaine has come home from work in the hopes of resting up from work. She had been tired from the whole ordeal at work. However, she takes a look outside to see her girls with their new giant neighbor. She was nervous about him for the safety of her own daughters. At the same time, she was very curious about him and walked outside to meet him. Two minutes after she headed outside, Jason looked down at her and gently smiled, which made her blush.
"I take it you must be the mother." Jason said.
He lowered his huge hand to the snow covered ground to let Joanna and Roslyn climb off his hand. They did so and headed into the house. Elaine looks up at his huge and walked towards it with some nervousness. There was no way she could describe the length and width of his hands. Nor she can explain how enormous his palm. There was no way for her to describe how massive he was in general.
"Yes." Elaine said. "Umm is it ok for me to climb in?"
"Of course." Jason said.
She climbed into the palm of his hand and felt him lift her closer to his huge handsome face. Not only Elaine was suprised how gentle Jason was in holding her girls in the palm of his hand without harming them. She was also relieved that he was gentle in holding her in his hand. She saw him smile down at her in a gentle manner and smiled back at him.
"You must be our next door neighbor." Elaine said, stroking a piece of her ebony hair away from her dark eyes. "My name's Elaine Benson."
"Nice to meet you." Jason said. "I'm your next door neighbor, Jason Black."
"It's nice to mee you." Elaine said. "Where did you come from?"
"I was born in Detroit." Jason said. "I was living in Aspen Colorado, before coming to New York."
She sat there blushing as he continued to hold her in his hand without hurting her. Eventually, he let her off his hand and he headed inside to eat. She did the same thing with her girls and ate as well. Sweet man. Elaine thought. Maybe living next-door to Jason won't be that bad. Later on, they headed into the warm living room and sat down on the sofa across the Christmas tree.
"Have you wrote your letters to Santa?" Elaine said.
"Yes." Roslyn and Joanna said.
"Ok let me see them." Elaine said.
She looks through Joanna's letter to Santa first and it was the same wish for toys and for her remarry again. I thought I told her to stop that. Elaine thought. I know it's what she wants me to do is remarry again, but with Marco... No, I don't think he would've wanted me to be alone.
"Are you sure this is what you want?" Elaine said.
"Of course." Joanna said. "Mom, you need to try for dad's sake."
"Ok." Elaine said "I'll start dating again soon. I want to see what Roslyn has to say for Santa."
She looks over to her younger daughter's list and wants the same thing as Joanna, although she never hints at it. She eventually agrees to start dating again if it will make her girls happy to have a new dad in their lives. Elaine can't help but wonder if Jason will like having to be their step-father to her girls. She'll find out from him tomorrow night. Within a few days after work, Elaine has asked Jason out on their first official date. It was hard for her to ask him out due to their size difference and she was afraid he'll say no to her. She was surprised that he said yes to her.
"What time do you want to pick me up." Elaine said.
"I'll come get you around 7." Jason said.
She was nervous as hell to go out on that dates as it was her first one in five years.
"I know you're nervous about your first date. " Jason said. "I am too, but I promise you a good time."
"Ok." Elaine said.
He drops her off at her house and headed back into his own to get ready for the date. She had to get ready because Jason was taking her to a fancy restaurant in the giant community and it was formal. She pulled out her strapless turquoise dress, a pink spagetti strap sheath and a gold off the sholder dress.
"Three dresses and I just don't know what to wear." Elaine said.
Joanna and Roslyn had heard that their mother has started dating again, this time with Jason. They were excited and headed into her room to decide what she can wear while her sister, Casey watches them. She was more than happy to watch her girls as they got along with their cousin, Maxine. They saw her confused on which dress she should wear for the fancy restaurant he wanted to take her. Elaine was in her robe covering her undergarments.
"Mama." Joanna said. "what's wrong?"
"Nothing really." Elaine said.
"Don't lie to us." Roslyn said.
"I'm confused in what I should wear for my date with Jason." Elaine said. "I mean I haven't figured out what I should wear to our date at the restaurant."
She holds up the pink dress and holds it for her girls to see and study the effect in the mirror. Casey comes into Elaine's room to help with the process of elimination for the formal dresses. Then she holds up the three dresses and asks Joanna, Roslyn and Casey to sit down on the bed.
"What do you think about the pink one?" Elaine said.
"I don't like it." Joanna said. "Pink looks ok in the springtime. Not in the winter though."
"It'll look good with the right accessories." Casey said.
"I say no." Roslyn said. "Too short in length."
Elaine puts the pink dress away and held up the turquoise strapless dress and the gold off the shoulder dress for them to choose. After a couple of minutes, they all decided to go with the turquoise dress for her to wear for the night. She got dress in the gown and Casey helped her zip her up in it. Her long ebony hair was brushed to a shine and curled. Her sister helped put her make up on after she put her pearl necklace on. Soon after she put her silver heels on and grabbed her fur coat with her light blue purse with her credit cards, her cell phone and driver's license.
"Remember, my girls have to be in bed by 8." Elaine said. "If you have any problems call me at the restaurant."
"Don't worry about it." Casey said. "I can handle it.
Around 7 o'clock, Elaine left the house and headed off to her date with Jason. She stayed warm with her fur coat over her strapless dress, inside his coat pocket that he layered over his tuxedo. He didn't tell her where they're going, but it was a nice restaurant. They soon arrive in the giant community, but he kept going towards the restaurant. When he arrived there, Elaine was surprised how dressed up the giants were in this restaurant. It was clearly an upscale French restaurant and she was surprised. The maitre d took Jason to a booth and have him seated. He gently pulled her out of the pocket and placed her on the table where a table was made just for her.
"Oh my." Elaine said, peeking out of his pocket. "This is more than what I expected."
"I'm glad you like it." Jason said. "I haven't taken a woman out in three years since my wife died."
"I'm sorry." Elaine said. "It brought me back so many memories of my husband, Marco."
The waiter asked for their drinks, Jason asked for a bottle of champagne for both him and Elaine. She was going to protest, but decided against it and ordered the lobster tail with filet mignon. Jason ordered crab legs and lobster with asparagus. As the waiter left to get their orders in, Elaine took off her fur coat to reveal a strapless turquoise gown and put it next to another chair. She faced Jason about what happened to him in Aspen.
"I had a wife in Aspen." Jason said. "She died from an unknown cancer."
"I know how that feels." Elaine said. "I haven't gone out with anyone since Marco died and I had to raise both Joanna and Roslyn on my own. Before his death in 2005, he used to give me the same things every Christmas."
"I say that's rude." Jason said.
"I know." Elaine said " I told him how unhappy I was about them. Then he made it up to me with making a new card and purse. He even baked some cookies. I did forgive him and two days later he died in a car crash. Umm did you..."
"No." Jason said. "I didn't have any children from Lissa. I wanted to have them."
"Maybe you might have that chance." Elaine said.
"When." Jason said.
The waiter came back with the bottle of champagne and filled Jason's cup first, as it was customary for them to do so. The tiny waiter help fill Elaine's cup and informed her their food is coming soon. They leave again and they resume talking. She describe Joanna having light brown hair and brown eyes, while Roslyn has blonde hair and blue eyes. During dinner, she was having such a great time with him and wanted him to spend Christmas with them. Once done eating, he paid the bill and asked Elaine to dance with him.
"How?" Elaine said. "You're huge and...."
She didn't have to think about it as she watched Jason lower his hand next to her, suggesting using his fingers and thumb. Elaine felt a bit intimidated with his hand due to the massive size. Pushing it aside, she took the offer and danced with his finger for a bit. Elaine was having a nice time on her date with Jason and didn't like for it end. Soon she puts on her fur coat and Jason puts his black coat on. Then, he gently put her back in his coat pocket left the restaurant to take her home.
"I really had a nice time with you." Elaine said, peeking out of the pocket.
"I'm glad." Jason said.
He took her home and gave her a good night kiss, which made her blush. She returns the favor to him before she went into her house. He headed back into his house to sleep it off.
It was Christmas Eve and Elaine watched as Joanna and Roslyn got ready for setting some milk and cookies for Santa Claus to visit the at night. It was a since the beginning of December when she started dating Jason again and she was close to making it happen for her girls. He likes having them around and he was very sweet to them. Elaine read them one Christmas story before sending them off to bed. She tucks them to bed and went into her own room to sleep.
"I can only hope." Elaine said to herself.
It was Christmas morning as Joanna and Roslyn rushed down the stairs to see all the milk and cookies gone and a lot of presents are there. Elaine follows them soon after and as the present exchange is under way, she noticed a black velvet ring box wrapped in gold wrapping paper.
"Oooooh mama, someone got you a Christmas present." Joanna said.
"I know." Elaine said. "I don't know who though."
She opens the present to find a wedding ring inside it. She heads outside bundled up to grab the paper when Jason headed outside to see her. She was about to head back when he asks her to stop for a moment.
"Merry Christmas, Jason." Elaine said.
"Merry Christmas." Jason said. "I see you got my present."
"Yes." Elaine said, holding the box.
"I know we've been dating for a short time." Jason said. "But I like you to know they were at least the happiest ones of my life. However I would like to ask you one thing though?"
"What?" Elaine said.
He asks her to marry him at once and she agrees to do so. The final wish for both Joanna and Roslyn's Christmas wish came true and they'll have a new father. Within nine months, Jason and Elaine were married and now they can have a proper Christmas as a family.
A woman in her at the age of 23, was opeining her Christmas gifts. She had just realized it was the same gifts that she was given by her husband. The card was given to her since they were in college.
