That's right folks!
For a while now some of us have been puzzling out a way to increase the activity a bit on the site here.
After much mulling over, we have decided to host a number of contests.
The first one that we decided on will cater purely to the writers, but no worries to the artists out there. Some of the ideas we have for up coming contests will allow you to strut your stuff as well.
But for this contest, we're going to focus on word counts.
Here are the rules.
Before the contest begins on Monday (the 3rd of May) each participant must choose a story of theirs. It could be one they've neglected, or a whole new one that they want to start. Be sure you like the story, because you will be chained to it for better or for worse during the next week.
You will not be able to legitimately count any words that you sneakily add to another story.
There are three levels of word counting that you can strive for.
Bronze: 500 words a day. That averages out to about 3,500 words by the end of the week.
Silver: 1,000 words a day. A but trickier. But by the end of the week you will have added 7,000 words to your story, and that's nothing to sniff at.
Gold: 2,000 words a day. Definitely a tough one. But not impossible, believe me. By the end of the week, your word count average should add up to 14,000.
Go ahead and open up one of your story documents and check out how many page these word counts add up to.
The ultimate goal of this contest is to help us all work through our writers block and continue our stories. You don't need to post what you've written right away.
Indeed, since we're striving for quantity and not quality this week, you may want to take some time to polish up what you've written before showing it to anyone.
Now for the prizes. (Oh yes, didn't I mention them?)
There will be one art prize for each of the three word count category's, supplied by Biali and Amayasama. (They're still sorting out who will do which ones, but I will amend this thread opener as soon as they let me know what's what.)
As for the rest of you...
Those who are willing will receive a magnet badge for whichever category they participated in.
Gold, Silver or Bronze.
They will be hand made by yours truly and sent out as soon as the contest is over. (for an example of some of my budding magnet work, please follow the link. -> [ridel.deviantart.com/art/Moar-magnets-162343214]
It's a little hard to tell from the picture, but each of the magnets is laminated, so it's not just a cruddy piece of paper stuck to a magnet strip. =p
Now, I say those who are willing because obviously I will need your address if I'm going to send these to you. I know that some people will be uncomfortable giving out such information.
And there you have it! If you have any questions feel free to ask away.
This is also the official sign up thread, so if you're interested in participating, give us a shout out. You have until Sunday at midnight to decide and declare which story you are going to work on, and how many words you're aiming for.
I hope to see you at the starting line this Monday!
