Prologue It is the year 2018 and the Earth is in terrible chaos. Six years ago the government had made the perfect soldiers. For the first six months the United States had control over the whole world because of their super soldiers, however the super soldier project had a glitch in its system that the government thought wasn’t important….you see the super soldier formula they used perfected the body physically but it also ruined the subject’s mental health. The government simply thought that it would make it easier for them to control the soldiers. They were wrong. Slowly the soldiers were losing their humanity. Not only their humanity but also their intelligence until they had the knowledge of a caveman, knowing only how to walk, run,...and hunt. As time passed, our soldiers had turned into flesh-eating zombies. It was as if a horror zombie movie had come into reality. Strange enough, how to get infected was the same; you get bit by a zombie you turn into one. Sadly though my father was infected three weeks after. That left just me and Mom. Luckily Mom was a navy seal and so she taught me everything she knew; from wiping a zombie’s head clean off to firing any man-made weapon. During the time I was training, my two best friends, Alex and May, joined our little family. My mom died protecting us, leaving us…..for good. My name is Sarah Stone, I’m eighteen years old, I know how to operate any weapon of choice, and I am a survivor. Oh and one more thing, my father was the one that created the super soldier formula.

Chapter One Carefully and quietly I walked toward the clear lake that was located in the center of the forest. Quickly I survived the area before signaling that the coast was clear. I looked behind me when I heard the leaves rustle only to see May and Alex come out. All of us wore camouflaged hats and jackets and black combat boots. We really didn’t have to change our pants nor our shirts because they were caked with mud and had grass stains. Sighing, I pushed a few strands of my silver hair from my blue-green eyes and warily waited with May for Alex to finish filling her canteen with water from the lake. We took turns, guard each other. The reason we were in the forest was because we were extremely low on food. When my canteen had hardly enough for a gulp, I heard a shotgun being used….right behind me. I dropped my canteen and turned to look at May and Alex. “What ha-“I stopped immediately as I heard the all too familiar sound of a series of moans. That meant only one thing; the ‘soldiers’ were coming. “RUN!!!” I cried grabbing my pistol and darted away from the moans, looking back once to see if May and Alex were following and then continued running. Everything was fine until I tripped on a tree root, making me fall. Seeing me as the easier prey, one of the zombies headed toward me. I crawled back but bumped into a tree. Quickly thinking, I grabbed the knife in boot and slashed off its head. I then scrambled to my feet and started running back toward Alex and May, who ran ahead when I tripped. I caught up only to see that they were about to be surrounded by a group of zombies. With widened eyes, I grabbed an AA12 from my backpack and shot one of the zombies in the head before he took a bite out of Alex. When I was about to take the second shot, the ground started to shake repeatedly. Everything froze, including the zombies. Immediately I took this opportunity of the zombies’ hesitation and barked at May and Alex “Fall back.” They snapped out of their daze and ran toward me, despite the shaking ground. After they passed me, I shot a couple of zombies before running after the girls. Back to one of the safe houses. “What the heck happened back there!?!” I said angrily at my two best friends. We were in one of the safe houses Mom and I built; this one was located near the lake thankfully. “Look, I saw a deer and just thought of meat. I forgot to use the silencer.” protested Alex. I sighed and pinched the bridge of my nose. What’s going on, I thought, this isn’t like her. “It’s okay its just I’m really nervous because that shake this morning that’s all.” “I am too,” agreed May, “according to my calculations; there hasn’t been a shake that violent in two years.” May was the brainiac out of the three of us. Whenever it came to facts, always trust her. Heck she could hack to any computer in the whole world. While I was the group’s weapons specialist, thanks to Mom I am able to use any gun you got. Alex is the best tracker which is very much needed when we go looking for food. “Well do you have a reason for this shake?” Alex asked. We looked at her waiting for her answer. She bit her lip and tried to avoid eye contact. “May,” I said calmly, “do you, or do you not know what happened?” She just shook her head no, yet I had a hunch that she knew the cause. I had to find out, one way or another. Trying to make the matter seem unimportant, I simply shrugged and pointed to Alex; signaling her that she took the first watch. Though we were in a camouflaged house, we still had to take some precautions.

Chapter 2 Carefully, I added the last touch to my invention, the steel fan. It is what it’s called. It’s used to cut things but it gives more damage than an ordinary knife. I had been working on it for some time now. There was silence all around, which was good. Bored now, I started to think about before the super soldier plan was even an idea. Everything was so peaceful back then that I had to smile. All of a sudden, I remembered an event that happened to me when I was ten years old in this very forest. Flashback “BRUNO” A ten year old I yelled. I was in the forest because my German shepherd, Bruno, had gotten out of the house again. Since I knew that Bruno loved going to the forest, which was the first place to look. “Bruno,” I called, “Mommy and Daddy are going to be mad at you if you don’t come home.” I had looked for hours and the results were the same; nothing. Sighing, I sat cross-legged on the ground pouting. Despite my upset mood, I had to admire the scenery. Everything was so green and relaxing. Then a series of loud barks broke through the silence. I smiled, I knew that bark anywhere. “Bruno!” I cried happily, scrambling to my feet. I started running to where the barks were coming from. The sound is coming from behind those bushes, I thought excitedly. Once I burst passed through the bushes, I froze at the sight I saw. Bruno was barking at a pair of black Nikes. These shoes though huge. Slowly I looked up from the shoes, to a pair of tan cargo pants, to a white shirt, to finally a giant face. It was a boy, probably my age or older. He had peach skin and black hair that reached his neck. He had hazel eyes; shaking my head, I ran toward Bruno, ignoring the giant boy that started looking at me. “Bruno.” I cried happily, throwing my arms around my dog’s neck. “Is this your dog?” I looked up to see that the boy was talking to me. I simply nodded and scratched my dog behind his ear. The ground started to shake when the giant took a tiny (to him) step closer to Bruno and me. Of course this caused me to lose my balance and land on my butt. “Sorry” he breathed as he sat on his knees. “It’s okay.” I said smiling. This surprised him, maybe because he was expecting me to run away from him screaming. He smiled down at me and said, “My name’s Sam, what’s yours?” “Sarah, Sarah Stone.” I replied as the sun broke through the tree canopy, illuminating my silver hair. End Flashback
I gasped as the memory faded. That shake this morning was like when Sam tried to get closer to Bruno and I. Maybe he’s still here, I thought eagerly, wait what am I thinking? I can’t think about Sam, I have to take care of my family. Suddenly, the ground started shaking again…just like this morning. Alex and May were woken up by the shaking and already had their backpacks on. After grabbing my backpack, we ran out the door only to see about two dozen zombies coming our way. “Shoot,” I hissed, grabbing my gun, “Alex, May stay back until I clear a path for you.” “But Sarah, what about you?” Alex asked, prepared to bolt. “It doesn’t matter. Look I want you to go to the next closest safe house.” As I said this, I pulled off my hat, letting my hair fall down. The moonlight hit my head making it shine like a Christmas tree. The zombies, all two dozen of them, were looking at me now. That’s right, I thought, pay attention to the silver-haired teenager, no one else. The shaking had stopped as quickly as it had started. “Sarah?” gasped a loud voice. I ignored it; I had to protect my family. Suddenly, I heard screams behind me. I turned around, forgetting about the zombies, and saw that nobody was there; no May or Alex. No, I thought, dropping my gun. They were gone, just like that. Then something warm and leathery captured me. Instead of screaming out of fear, I started punching and kicking the thing that grabbed me, which was hard to do because it was so dark. Then light came in, I looked up and froze. Looking at me was a giant, and it wasn’t Sam. Right when he was about to say something, for the first time in my life, I fainted.

Chapter Three I woke up with a groan. Everything was so blurry. I sighed and closed my eyes, rolling to my side I the process. I felt so warm and comf-a wait a minute. Quickly I sat up and waited for my vision to clear. At first I was confused at why and how I was in such a huge room, but then the events on what happened previously came back. I have to get out of here, I thought. Just when I was about to get up, the door opened and in walked a giant. He wore a pair of combat boots and camouflaged pants, along with a white t-shirt. He had blond hair, emerald eyes, and peach colored skin. “So,” his voice boomed, “you’re the famous Sarah I’ve heard so much about.” As he said this, he sat on his knees and laid his arms on the bed. I just stared at him confused, “Who are you?” “Oh right, uh, my name is Jake. I’m a friend of Sam and May.” Wait did he say May? So that’s the reason why she was so skittish the other day. Absent-mindedly, I reached out to grab the strap of my backpack, only to see that it wasn’t there. “Where’s my pack?” I asked the giant blond with a glare in my eyes. Jake just laughed but then dangled my backpack above my head, out of my reach, and said “You mean this?” he then started to swing it, “man what do you have in here, a decade’s worth of clothes and makeup?” “No,” I said, I shuddered at the very thought of wearing makeup, and held out my hand, “now give it back, gently.” He smirked and shook his head no. I sighed and then stood on the pillow. My gaze and voice turned to steel when I barked at him, “Give me my backpack NOW!” His face was a little pale when he handed me my bag after a quick, “yes ma’am.” Once I had it, I started looking through my things to see if anything was taken, thankfully everything was there. “Never touch a girl’s bag.” I said with a smirk. Man, I thought, though he’s a giant, he’s weak. Jake turned back to his normal color and frowned, apparently he doesn’t like being bossed around. He sighed and scooped me off the pillow, standing his full height, which was probably around 100 to 110 ft. I sat cross-legged in the middle of his palm, holding my backpack in front of my. I will have to check the weapons when I’m alone. With each step he took, I could feel a tiny tremor. Pretty soon we were in, what looked like, the living room, where there was two more giants, wearing the same outfit as Jake, sitting on the floor talking to Alex and May who were on a coffee table. The talking stopped when Jake and I entered the room. Jake gently set me down next to May. I turned to her only to see Jake pick her up and kiss her lightly on top of her head. From where I was at, I think I saw May blush as Jake continued to kiss her. “Yeah that sure does show how good of a friend you are to her.” I said with a half smile. The kissing immediately stopped and May was gently set down. I looked at her and saw her face was as red as a tomato and was wearing a sheepish grin. “Sarah is that really you?” asked a booming, yet familiar, voice. I turned around to see a huge set of hazel eyes staring at me. I know those eyes anywhere. I had seen them so many times when I was little, that I was completely at ease. “Who else would it be Sam?” I laughed. I startled myself when I heard it. It’s been so long since I laughed. The eyes curved slightly showing that my giant friend was smiling. Of course his smile was contagious to everyone who saw it, which made me grin like a cat that just had a bowl of cream. Sam chuckled at my face which made the grin I was wearing disappear and for my eyes to narrow. “Oh come on Sarah,” Sam said raising his head a little higher for me to see his face, “please don’t give me that face. I haven’t seen you in years.” I rolled my eyes at him and dropped my backpack, only to be scooped up and given a giant version of a hug. I groaned as I tried to push away from the fabric I was being shoved into. I felt and heard Sam laugh, probably to my actions, and started to walk away. “Sam,” I managed to cry “you have no idea how awkward this is for me.” “Aw Sarah don’t be like that,” Sam laughed, finally releasing me from his hug, “we haven’t seen each other and this is what I get?” He brought me in front of his face and gave me a playful put. I knew he was kidding, but he was right. Here we are seeing each other for the first time after seven years and I’m acting like a little brat. I sighed and gave him a small smile. “Sorry Sam, I’m just stressed out.” I said, pushing my hair back. Sam sat down and then I realized that we were in his room. I sat cross-legged in his palm and looked around; the walls were painted dark green, a basic bookcase with six shelves, a desk with a table lamp, and a king-sized(I think) bed with a dark green comforter. I turned my gaze to Sam seeing that he had been watching me the whole time. I raised an eyebrow, as if I was going to say ‘what is it?’ He simply smiled at me and flopped down on his bed. I yelped and grabbed Sam’s thumb to prevent from being thrown off. Once the movements stopped, a yawn escaped my lips. Sam then placed me on the pillow before lying down himself. I closed my eyes and relaxed. The last thing I remember was something rubbing my back and Sam whispering, “I’ll protect you.”

Chapter Four “Sarah….Sarah….it’s time to wake up.” Sam had been at this for a while and now was starting to poke me. It was getting really annoying now. I groaned and finally sat up. “I swear to God Sam, if you were my size, I’d kick your butt so hard, that you’d need to stand on your head to relax.” I growled, I was so not a morning person. Sam simply chuckled and plucked me from the pillow by the back of my jacket and placed me on his shoulder. I grabbed a handful of his hair when he started walking out of his room. “Don’t worry,” Sam whispered, looking at me, “I won’t let you fall.” I smiled and scooted closer to his neck. I trusted him; my life was literally in his hands. The smell of food hit me once we entered the kitchen. My stomach growled loudly, which made me turn red with embarrassment. Sam laughed, “I was about to ask you if you’re hungry, but your stomach just answered my question.” I rolled my eyes and said, “Well you probably have never been hungry before.” Sam was about to say something but was interrupted by Alex, “Hey Sarah you’ve got to try the pancakes.” She shouted with a big grin on her face. She then turned to Jake, “Man you sure can cook.” Jake smiled and continued to flip pancakes. He wore a different outfit today; a pair of blue pants and a black hoodie. I didn’t notice it before but Jake’s hair reached up to his shoulders, which hung loosely today. “Where’s May?” I asked as I looked around the kitchen. “She’s here, but she’s still asleep.” Jake said looking over his shoulder smiling. Sam gently grabbed me and set me down on the table next to Alex. Her face, or more likely her mouth, was covered with maple syrup. I chucked at the site of her. She reminded me of how carefree and energetic we use to be. I sat down next to her and again my stomach growled. “Man,” laughed Sam, “when’s the last time you ate?” I silently counted then replied, “About three or four days ago.” It became quiet except for the sizzling from the pan. The awkward silence was unbearable, even Alex had stopped eating. The silence was then broken by a groan that came from Jake’s direction. We looked at him and saw him turn off the stove. He then pulled out a tired May from his hood with great care. He really does care about her, I thought. We heard a yawn coming from the door and saw the other giant from last night come in. He was a red-head with amazing blue eyes and had the worst case of bed head. I couldn’t help but snicker quietly. Apparently Red-head had good hearing because he gave me an annoyed look. “What are you laughin at Pipsqueak?” I rolled my eyes and said to him, “Your bed head Princess.” His jaw dropped and I think I heard May and Alex giggle. One point for me, none for Red-Head, I thought with a smirk. Then suddenly a plate full of pancakes (my size) was placed in front of me. I turned and saw Jake sit down with May in his palm stretching her arms. He looked at her and smiled when she caught his gaze. She blushed and quickly looked away, only to look back at him with a small smile. Never have I seen a couple so much in love, I thought as I ate my pancakes. I smiled at them when they were giving each other the lamb eyes. Of course a moment like that never lasts long because the silence and the lamb eyes were broken by a gagging sound. I turned around to see who was sick but was annoyed to see that it was Red-head pretending like he was going to throw up. Sneering, I turned toward Alex to see her giggling at him. She then leaned toward me and said, “Funny and cute, big bonus.” “Emphasis on the big.” I said. “I heard that, and my name is Todd. Not Red-head.” He said plopping down in the seat next to Jake….also near Alex. I was shocked. I didn’t call him Red-head out loud. Can he- “Yes I can read minds. And I also have extremely good hearing.” He smirked at me. I shook my head and continued to eat my pancakes. They tasted like the ones Mom made; buttery and poofy. My mind was suddenly ten years ago with Mom and Dad. Each memory brought a smile on my face. When I finished my pancakes, I snapped back into reality. I saw Sam just eating his breakfast, Jake and May in the middle of a conversation, and Todd was trying to make Alex laugh. I looked back at Sam and said, “Sam can I talk to you in private?” “Sure Sarah.” He said in a confused voice. He laid his hand down, palm up, on the table and let me climb on. Then we were back in his room. He sat at his desk and gently placed me on it. “So what’s on your mind?” he asked, resting his head on his arms. “Sam….I want you to take me back.” I said, avoiding eye contact. It was quiet for a couple of minutes. Then Sam’s finger gently lifted my face to look at him. “Sarah,” he said looking into my eyes, “why do you want me to do that?” I looked away and scratched the back of my head. How to put this, I thought. After a few seconds, I looked back into his sad eyes. “I’m not use to being protected by someone else,” I sighed, “even if that person is a friend…..I’m use to being the protector.” He just looked at me with sad eyes. “I don’t want to lose you like the way you lost your mom Sarah.” “How did-“ “May told us.” I sat down and buried my head in my hands. So May told them, I thought, did she tell them everything though? Sam sighed, sending a gust of warm, stale air to me. I then felt a tug on the back of my jacket and was smushed against a soft yet firm surface. Sam was hugging me again. Finally I couldn’t hold it anymore, I started to cry. Cry for those years of fear, pain, and misery. During the time, Sam rubbed my back and whispered, “Shhh, that’s right let it out.” over and over again. Soon my sobs had subdued to sniffs. “I love you Sarah, I always have, and I will protect you. Even if it’s from yourself.” Sam whispered as I hugged his cheek.

Chapter Five “Oh come on Sarah,” May whined, “can we please stop right now.” May and I were training for two hours now and were panting hard. Just because we aren’t alone anymore doesn’t mean I’m going to let my friends get chubby. “No can do May-may,” I said using her old nickname, “maybe after twenty more pushups then we can stop.” She started to whine more but still did what she was told. When she finished, she collapsed on the hardwood floor. I rolled my eyes as I carried her on my shoulder, over to the carpet side of the giant house. The ground suddenly started to shake. Even after living here for two weeks, I still wasn’t use to it, though I’m now able to keep my balance. I looked up once the shaking had stopped and saw Sam; wearing his military outfit, looking at me. He smirked and raised an eyebrow at me when he saw the condition May was in. “Need some help?” he asked, crouching and placing his hand in front of me. I smiled as I nodded to him, then I gently placed May in his hand. Right when I was about to step on, Sam scooped me up with his other hand and started walking. “Sam, you know I hate it when you do that!” “I know, but you make it so fun.” He chuckled, placing me in his breast pocket. The pocket was deep, but was also soft and warm. At the bottom of it though, was my backpack. Sam and I were going to the woods to see if there were any other survivors. We did this every day.
“Sarah it’s almost dark, we’ll look again tomorrow. I promise.” “…..You’re right Sam,” I sighed, “let’s go.” Sam carefully picked me up and placed me on his shoulder. Once I sat down, Sam started walking back home. Ten minutes had passed and then the silence was broken by screams. It sounds like a kid’s scream, I thought. Before I could say anything, Sam started running full speed toward the screaming. I held on tight to both Sam’s hair and shirt as he ran the screaming getting louder and louder. When we got there, I saw two children cornered by four soldier zombies. Sam quickly scooped the kids up and deposited them in one of his pockets and ran back to the house. When we got back, Sam was breathless, yet he had a big smile on his face. He then grabbed me and kissed me on the head. I laughed when his kissed ended. This was the first time we had found survivors other than ourselves. I then remembered the kids and reminded him that they were still in his pocket. Sam smiled again at me and brought out the scared children. They’re siblings, by the looks of it, a boy and a girl. Both having the same brown hair and shape of face. Gently, Sam placed them on the coffee table, then me. Up close, you can see that the boy was the oldest by a few years from his sister. They were surprised to see me with Sam. “Hey there.” Sam whispered. They cowered away from him when Sam spoke. Slowly I walked toward them. Then the little girl ran up to me, hugging me, and started to cry. I hugged the girl back and looked at Sam. His eyes were full of sorrow; both of us knew what they had seen. He gently stroked the girl’s head with his finger as she cried. She looked up at him and gave him a small smile. Then Jake came into the room, wearing his white chef hat. He stopped when he saw that Sam and I were back. The little girl hugged me tighter and whimpered a little when Jake finally noticed the kids. “Shhh,” I cooed, “it’s alright your safe now.” She sniffed and looked at Jake who gave her a warm smile. I guess Jake had a soft spot for kids because the little girl slowly smiled back at him. “Hello Princess,” Jake whispered, “what’s your name?” She smiled a little bigger at him and shyly hid behind me. I smiled at her and turned my attention toward her brother. I looked closely at him and saw that he was swaying a little despite the fact that he was smiling a little. “Jake!” I shouted, he jumped at my voice and looked at me, “the kid’s swayin.” He got the hint and immediately stood up. He then placed his hand in front the boy. He climbed into Jake’s hand without hesitation, but the girl only came out from behind me. I looked at Sam and motioned him to put his hand down for her. Sam placed his hand in front of us. The girls scrambled into his hand, obliviously trusting him more, after a minute of thinking. I sat next to her and then the guys headed for the kitchen. You could tell that the kids were resisting the urge to dunk their faces into the soup that Jake had made. The little girl, who I learned that her name was Kate, sat next to her brother, Justin. “Kate?” I said, she looked at me with her innocent eyes, “…never mind, I’ll ask later.” I didn’t have the heart to ask her who she was with other than her brother. I looked up at Sam when I felt him gently rub my back. He raised an eyebrow but said nothing as he turned his gaze back to Kate and Justin. “By the way, what did you do to May? When I left the room to make lunch, she was still asleep.” Said Jake, looking at me with an accusing gaze. “What, it’s not my fault she needs to exercise more.” I protested. “Hey can you guys give it a rest? Alex and I are trying to get some sleep.” Todd shouted from his room. Jake just shook his head and we just continued to eat. The soup tasted like a mixture of beef and mashed potatoes with a hint of split peas. Though Jake doesn’t like that I push his girlfriend to the limit, he is one heck of a cook. I look around and watched the newest members of our ‘family’ get use to their new home.

Chapter Six “Come out, come out wherever you are.” Sam said, and then started looking through his room. Kate and me were playing hide-and-seek with Sam. It was his idea to play it when Kate started to get bored. Of course I was forced to play and was hiding under Sam’s bed beneath a book of his. “Gotcha!” Sam laughed. Kate’s caught, I thought, stating the obvious; let’s see how long it will take him to find me. I stayed there for quite some time, like about ten minutes. Then I heard Kate say, “Try over there.” “Kay kiddo, but you’re goin in the pocket though.” Kate’s whining was muffled out by the fabric. By the tremors happening, my guess was that Sam was near the bed. Then suddenly, the book was lifted off and I was in pitch darkness. Light came in revealing Sam’s smiling face in front of me. I was about to say something but Sam placed his finger over my mouth and motioned me to stay quiet. I rolled my eyes but did what he told me. Sam gently placed me behind his hair and then brought Kate out of his pants pocket. “She wasn’t there kiddo. Sorry.” “Sarah….come in Sarah.” Buzzed in my walkie-talkie. Sam took off his shoulder as I unhooked the talkie from my belt. “Sarah here, what’s the problem.” “Sarah, its Alex. Kate’s brother, Justin, managed to get out.” “What!?!” “Yeah, May and I are currently following him into the woods.” “Give me your location.” “About twenty yards from the lake safe house.” “Right, I’m on my way.” I reattached the talkie and told Sam to put me down, which he did. I then scooped my backpack from the floor near the bed and started running toward the door. On the way, Todd caught me and immediately read my thoughts on what was going on. He then scooped me up and headed towards the direction of where Alex and May were. Before we even fully reached the location, we heard gun shots echo in the forest. Todd dumped me on the ground to find Justin while I go help Alex and May. I ran as fast as I could, shooting zombies on the way. When I reached them, I started sending bullets everywhere. All I could see was red. “Die!” I shouted, shooting another zombie. Then I had an idea and hit a male zombie between the legs. It curled up in pain on the ground. I smiled as I found out another weak spot for the zombies, the male ones that is. “Hey guys,” I shouted, looking over my shoulder, “the male ones still have that one weak spot.” “Seriously!?!” May cried. “Yeah, tested my theory out right now.” “Oh this is gonna be fun.” Alex replied with glee. She use to bully the guys back when the school was up. “Or I can do this.” Said a booming voice. Then a huge combat boot appeared and crushed the remaining zombies. Of course the force of the boot caused Alex, May, and me to fall and land on our backs. I looked up and saw Sam, wearing a pair of combat boots, a white tank top, pants, and a camouflaged cap; looking down at us. “Come on.” He sighed. He then scooped up May and Alex and gently deposited then in his pants pocket. Once they were in, Sam gave me a mischievous look as he took off his cap. I barely took a step back before I was picked up by Sam, and placed on top of his head. It was like lying down in a field of black wheat. Suddenly, I was in the dark. Sam ha put his cap back on. Why must Sam do this? I thought. I started lifting the cap off, but whenever I was even able to sit up, Sam would tug it back down. After my fourth try, I stopped and just let Sam walk. Please let Kate’s brother be okay, I silently prayed. I felt Sam stop but he didn’t take off the cap. He was also quiet. “Sam?” I called. Slowly the cap was lifted off, blinding me for a few seconds because of the light. After my eyes adjusted, I sat up and turned around to see what Sam was looking at that made him so quiet. What I saw made me cringe and cry my eyes out. What I saw, was Kate’s brother Justin dead, with pieces of flesh missing from his body.

Chapter Seven I didn't notice Sam taking me off of his head, nor did I notice Todd burying the poor boy's body. I was too busy crying my eyes out, trying to get rid of the corpse from my head. Then a new thought came to me, what am I going to tell Kate? "Sarah….we have to go back." Sam said in a hushed voice. "And then what Sam!?! How am I suppose to tell Kate that her own brother is dead!?!" I cried. "…I don't know." Was all he said as he gently pressed me against his cheek. All I did was close my eyes and lean into Sam's cheek. Why did Dad have to make that super soldier formula? Slowly, Sam released me from his hug, only to hand over Alex and May to Todd. Once Todd had gone ahead, Sam placed me in his pants pocket. I sighed and started crying again, I then felt Sam's hand in his pocket cradle me and start walking. Eventually I started to doze off, and then I fell asleep.
"Where's Justin?" Those were the first words Kate said when we got back. Sam set me on the ground and I just walked away from her, into a dark corner. Sam then gently told Kate what happened. Her reaction was heartbreaking; tears started pouring out of her eyes and then she started hitting Sam's boot. "You lied you said that we were safe!" she cried. Jake gently scooped her up and lifted her to his eye level. "Kate," he said lifting her face with a finger, "I know you're upset, but nothing can bring him back. I promise you though that nothing bad will happen to you." I looked at Jake and smiled. I knew that Sam and Jake would be great older brothers for Kate. Sam had a playful attitude that would be needed for a little girl like Kate, and Jake gave brotherly love and concern towards her. Hopefully she can heal though. I sighed and walked into the light. Sam saw and smiled at me, scooping me into his hand. Leave it to Sam to try and make me laugh, I thought as a chuckle escaped my lips. "If you'll excuse us, Sarah and I are going to get some sleep." Said Sam, before heading to his room. Once in the room, Sam placed me on one of the shelves in his bookcase before taking off his tank top. I blushed as I looked away. Still I couldn't help but peek and saw that he was well toned. I then went back to observing the small variety of books Sam had. Then Sam's hand gently wrapped around me and picked me up. He then lay down on his bed and placed me on the pillow next to him. Right when I comfortable, Sam plucked me from the pillow and set me on his chest…which was still bare. "Sam, maybe you should put me back on the pillow. You know in case you roll over." I said while blushing. "You worry too much," he muttered, "I don't move around that much and besides I'm a light-sleeper." And with that, he placed his hand over me and fell asleep. I sighed as I got comfortable on his chest. Well someone has to worry here, I thought. Sleep finally came to me a few minutes later, leaving me sleeping peacefully, snuggling closer to Sam's thumb. I woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of rustling fabric. I opened my eyes and saw Kate looking at me with tears in her eyes. After I managed to slip out from Sam's hand, I walked up to Kate. "Can I sleep with you and Sam?" she asked in a timid voice. "I usually sleep with Justin." I smiled softly at her and said, "Of course Sweetie, we just have to let Sam know." "You don't have to" boomed a groggy voice, I looked over my shoulder and saw Sam propping himself up with his arm, he gave her a sweet smile, "sure Kiddo, you can sleep with us." He scooped us up and placed us gently on the pillow next to him. Kate lay down close to me as she started to relax. "Hey Sam?" I asked. "Hmm?" "How did you know Kate and I were up?" Sam moved to his side, "I told you I was a light-sleeper," he yawned and placed his hand over us, "just go back to sleep Sarah."
